Reed leads Carle Place to third straight LI Class C title

The Carle Place field hockey team executed its game plan to perfection.
Five different players scored as the Frogs topped Pierson, 7-0, in the Long Island Class C championship at Berner Middle School for their third straight title.
“It was one goal after the next, after the next,” Carle Place coach Briana Rubenstein said. “We’re a team and we don’t care who scores the goals as long as they get into the net.”
Carle Place (10-3) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first half, pushing the ball forward and peppering the Pierson defense with shots. Skylar Reed led the early charge, netting two goals as the Frogs went into the break with a spring in their collective step.
“It was such a good feeling getting those goals in,” Reed said. “Everyone pushed 110 percent.”
Carle Place continued to bring pressure throughout the second half, making it a seven-goal game with 25:25 left on Reed’s third of the day. The Frogs finished with 29 shots on goal and 18 corners, including 10 in the second half.
Pierson (6-10) did its best to slow down Carle Place, but the Whalers struggled to turn field, recording only one shot. Senior goalkeeper Charlotte Johnson was finished with 22 saves.
Carle Place will play either Section VI’s Barker or Section V’s East Rochester in the state semifinals at Williamsville North High School in Buffalo on Nov. 10. It’s another challenge, but the Frogs are confident they’ll meet it, anxious to keep lighting up the scoreboard.
“Good things come in threes and this is our third time going to states,” Reed said. “We are putting those balls in the back of the net. State semis and finals, and we’re going to win.”
