Who's the boss?
Sorry, I couldn’t help it. Not after Rocky Point’s Alyssa Milano went off for five goals yesterday in a 7-1 win over West Babylon.
What’s more, those were the first goals of the sophomore’s career. She had the hat trick in the first half and added two more in the second half.
“One [goal] would’ve been great,” coach Katie Bittner said, “but what she did was amazing.”
When I spoke to Bittner for the field hockey preview, she said the team had graduated several seniors and they’d be rebuilding, but she was really high on a talented sophomore forward up from JV. Who knew that Milano would be that good right away, though?
“She just does it,” the coach said. “She finds goals in front of the cage. She has a presence and just knows how to get the ball in… She’s smart and her teammates trust her with the ball.”
Bittner, in her fourth year as coach, said she doesn’t remember ever seeing an Eagle have such a breakout game. “I’d imagine it’s been a long time,” she said. “We rarely score five goals in a game as a team.”
As for Milano’s confidence: “It’ll give her added confidence, but I think she has it already, even though she’ll never show it,” Bittner said. “She’s really cool and just wants to win.”
