Brian Haeffner made history for Garden City yesterday, setting a school record with a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the Trojans 58-7 win over Calhoun in the Nassau II opener for both teams.

Haeffner's return, which gave the Trojans a 51-7 lead, broke the previous mark of 97 yards set by Ross Farquharson on Oct. 31, 1953, Garden City statistician Jack White said. Haeffner finished with six touches for 183 yards and two scores, including a 67-yard rushing touchdown that gave the Trojans a 44-0 lead.

Danny Miller added 93 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries as the Trojans ran for 368 yards.

Herricks 21, Bellmore JFK 6: Jack Scaldaferri ran for 137 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries and had eight tackles and a fumble for Herricks in Nassau II. Mike Giordano hit Mark Marciano for 15-yard score to give Herricks a 7-0 lead just before halftime and Scaldaferri extended the advantage to 14-0 in the third quarter with a three-yard scoring run.

Elmont 35, Westbury 6: Simon Kalu threw for 136 yards and one touchdown and Matt Brutus had three sacks for Elmont in a Nassau II game that was called after the third quarter because of lightening. Kevon Chambers caught a 20-yard TD pass from Sidney Flowers that gave Elmont a 28-6 lead. Carey 41, South Side 0: Ray Catapano completed 11 of 14 passes for 174 yards and four touchdowns to lead Carey in Nassau II. Andrew Ris' 48-yard interception return set up Conor Colasurdo's 2-yard run with 5:14 left in the first quarter that gave Carey a 20-0 lead. Casey Kloepfer and Thomas Gallant had six tackles apiece and Dylan DeMeo had five catches for 92 yards and went 5-for-6 on extra point attempts in the win.

West Hempstead 56, Clarke 21: Bruce Gibbs ran for 130 yards and three touchdowns and Enrique McFarland had 134 yards and a touchdown on eight carries to lift West Hempstead in Nassau IV. Vinny Messina led West Hempstead with six tackles. McFarland's touchdown went for 79 yards on the third play of the game, and Gibbs' third score, a 56-yard run, gave the Rams a 42-0 lead.

North Shore 43, East Rockaway 22: Michael Floccari hit Josh Schwartz with an 18-yard touchdown pass on a 3rd-and-11 with 3:23 left in the fourth quarter to give North Shore a 36-22 lead in Nassau IV. The touchdown capped a six play drive. Chris Inzerillo ran for 138 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns, including a 12-yard scoring run with 7:51 left that gave North Shore a 21-14 lead.

Lynbrook 39, Sewanhaka 14: Joe Grossi carried 17 times for 167 yards and three touchdowns, including an 11-yard scoring run in the second quarter that gave Lynbrook a 20-6 halftime lead in Nassau III on Wednesday night. Dylan Lucas ran for 172 yards and three touchdowns for Lynbrook, which finished with 359 yards on the ground on 74 carries.
