Central Islip: First 2-0 start since 2001

For the first time since 2001, Central Islip football has begun the season with two consecutive wins. Camari McDonald and Jimmy Gaston Jr.’s pressure off the edge forced an incompletion on Riverhead’s two-point conversion attempt with 58 seconds left, sealing a 13-12 home win for the Musketeers against the Blue Waves Friday in Suffolk’s Division I.
Elijah Wellington rushed for an 11-yard touchdown with 2:45 remaining, giving Central Islip a six-point lead in the fourth quarter. Gaston Jr. finished with 120 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.
Josiah Rodney and Kavion Hobbs both rushed for touchdowns for Riverhead (0-2).
Sachem North 33, Whitman 7: Henry Sarro rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries and Jake Spera rushed for 65 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries as Sachem North defeated host Whitman. Luke LaRocca completed 6 of 10 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown for Sachem North (1-1), hitting John Licata for a 20-yard score to open the game. Whitman is 1-1.
Longwood 19, Sachem East 7: Kyon Sarwari rushed for 158 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries to lead Longwood (1-1) past host Sachem East. Travis Gibbs blocked a key field goal in the fourth quarter, which was returned 48 yards by Caleb Munoz. Sarwari capped the ensuing drive, which included a 21-yard catch by Craig Harty, with a 3-yard touchdown run to give Longwood a 12-7 lead in the fourth quarter.
Sarwari later had a 12-yard touchdown run to secure the victory. Mark Davis had an interception and Nyyir Thomas had a fumble recovery. Sachem East is 1-1.
Lindenhurst 35, Patchogue-Medford 14: Hunter DeRonde, Louis Drago and Jacob Burmeister all had an interception and Ryan Murgatroyd recovered a fumble to help lead Lindenhurst (2-0) to its second win. Murgatroyd also caught a touchdown pass from Mikey Russo, who threw two touchdowns in total, including one to Alex Burmeister.
For Patchogue-Medford (0-2), Brett Rupolo ran for one touchdown and threw another to Aidyn Modeste.
SATURDAY’S GAMES
Floyd 20, Brentwood 0: Ja’Quan Thomas rushed for 304 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries to lead host Floyd (2-0) past Brentwood. Thomas scored a 28-yard touchdown in the first quarter and an 8-yard and 44-yard touchdowns in the fourth. Jake Rivera had 13 tackles, four tackles for loss, and three sacks. Jaylen Johnson had 11 tackles and four sacks. Brentwood is 0-2.
Ward Melville 49, Bay Shore 14: Ward Melville middle linebacker Liam Cronin opened the scoring by blocking the punt on Bay Shore’s first possession, recovering the ball and scoring a 4-yard touchdown to set the tone as Ward Melville defeated host Bay Shore. Hudson Philbrick had four passing touchdowns, including two touchdowns to Angelo Sorbera. Sorbera also had a key block to spring Joey Benedetto’s 70-yard touchdown run in the second quarter for Ward Melville (2-0). Ethan Jargo was 7 for 7 on PATs. Xavier Hector completed a 25-yard passing touchdown to Matt Boule for Bay Shore (0-2).
