After three years at New Haven, former Lindenhurst tight end Evan Chieca is now a Florida Gator.
“It’s definitely surreal,” Chieca said. “It’s not about how you get there, as long as you get there. It’s a surreal feeling, and I’m excited for what’s next.”
Once Chieca entered the transfer portal on Jan.2, multiple SEC programs came calling. According to his X account, he took visits to Kentucky and LSU.
On Monday, Chieca made his decision and committed to the University of Florida.
“It’s about who you’re around,” Chieca said. “When I got there, it was great energy. They want you for who you are, and they really expressed that. I feel like I went to a place where I have the best chance to compete and a coaching staff that will develop me.”
Chieca earned All-NEC honors in 2025 at University of New Haven. He totaled 31 receptions for 255 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games. The 6-5, 250-pound tight end also made his impact felt as a punishing blocker.
At Lindenhurst, Chieca was not a ranked prospect. He was named All-County as a senior in 2022, recording 80 tackles as a defensive end. He added 20 receptions for 275 yards.
“He was a 6-5, 205-pound monster in high school,” personal trainer Cornell Warrick said. “All he needed was to be further developed and gain positive weight, and we knew he’d take off. His body became physically ready, he developed tremendously, and now he’s 6-5, 250. He’s a very hard worker, so I’m not surprised he got here — he put the hours in.”
Chieca has two years of eligibility remaining.
“I loved all my coaches at New Haven,” Chieca said. “They helped develop me as a player. And now, going to Florida, it’s amazing. I’ve never been more excited in my life for something.”
