Floyd's Bedell changes mind on Villanova

Stacey Bedell, the elusive running back for Floyd, has changed directions regarding his college choice.

Bedell, who committed to Division I-FCS Villanova in July after surprising Wildcats coaches by running the 40 in 4.48 despite a sprained ankle, de-committed over Labor Day weekend.

"My dad made the call for me," Bedell said before practice Tuesday. "They were pretty upset. But I just didn't think it was the place for me."

Bedell, a returning Newsday All-Long Island selection, was recently named MSG Varsity's No. 1 player to watch on Long Island for the 2011-12 school year. "Right now he has decided to be open to other offers," Floyd coach Paul Longo said. "He felt he committed to Villanova too early and now he wants to be recruited by other schools."

Longo acknowledged that several colleges that were prepared to offer scholarships dropped out when Bedell picked Villanova. Bedell said James Madison University is strongly recruiting him and will send a campus representative to visit him at Floyd on Friday. "But I'm not ready to make a decision yet," Bedell said. "I'll wait a while."
