For first time, four defending county champs fall
When was the last time four defending county football champions lost in the same weekend? Never!
Until now.
It started Friday night as North Babylon, defending Suffolk Division II champs, lost, 12-0, to Smithtown West on a pair of defensive TDs. The Bulldogs were limited to 121 yards.
Saturday, Freeport, the Nassau Conference I champion, lost a wild shootout to Farmingdale, 42-39. Lawrence, the Nassau Conference III champ, lost to Hewlett 35-7. And perhaps the most shocking upset of the four games was defending Nassau Conference II and Long Island Class II champion Garden City's loss to Carey, 26-14.
