Gerard Smith rewarded Garden City's stellar defensive effort by converting a 31-yard field goal in overtime to lift the Trojans to a 10-7 win over MacArthur Saturday in Nassau II football.

Garden City's Ryan Blair made a tackle for a 4-yard loss on a third-and-goal at the 1-yard line, forcing a 22-yard field-goal attempt by MacArthur. Matt Borges and Tom Wright blocked the kick to set up the Trojans' winning field-goal drive.

Garden City (2-0) trailed 7-0 before Brett Stewart capped an 8-play, 78-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown run at the 7:58 mark in the fourth quarter. Jimmy Kelleher connected with Jared Wolfe in the corner of the end zone to cap a 9-play, 62-yard drive that gave MacArthur a 7-0 lead with 4:46 remaining in the third quarter. Carmine Criscione ran for 80 yards on 21 carries for MacArthur (0-2).Elmont 44, Bellmore JFK 6: Kendall St. Louis scored on a 55-yard interception return, the spotlight play for an Elmont defense that also forced two safeties in its win. Matt Brutus made a tackle in the end zone with six minutes left in the first half to give the Spartans (2-0) an 8-0 lead. Brutus added a 58-yard punt return in the third quarter, extending the lead to 30-0. Anthony Penalvert recorded Elmont's second safety to make it 32-0. Bellmore JFK drops to 0-2.

Mepham 39, Calhoun 17: Tyler Davis completed 7 of 10 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown, and ran for 125 yards and three scores on three carries to lead Mepham (1-1). Chris Durkin had 91 yards on 13 carries and nine tackles, Yianni Hilas had two catches for 80 yards and a touchdown and an interception in the win. Calhoun is 0-2.

South Side 27, Westbury 6: Stephen Parker blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone with 1:00 left in the first quarter to give South Side (1-1) a 12-0 lead. Luke Scaduto ran for 77 yards and Kevin Rafferty made 14 tackles in the win. Westbury falls to 0-2. Long Beach 48, Herricks 0: Liam Rafferty completed 9 of 12 passes for 173 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 66 yards and a score for Long Beach (2-0). Marke Sutton caught a 54-yard scoring pass. Chris Parler ran rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries and caught a 17-yard touchdown pass. Nick Nigro had eight tackles. Herricks is 1-1.
