Hampton Bays knocked off two-time defending Suffolk IV football champion Glenn with a 21-20 win Saturday. It was only Glenn's fourth loss in five years.

"It's a huge win for us," said Baymen coach Mike Oestreicher, whose team opened the season as the seventh seed. "For us to compete in the division, we have to be able to compete against and beat the top tier teams."

With 36 seconds left, Glenn recovered an onside kick but Hampton Bays knocked down a Hail Mary pass from the 35-yard line on fourth down to end the game.

"I was pleased with our ability to stay in coverage and be disciplined enough to make sure the last score didn't happen," Oestreicher said.

In the fourth quarter, Trey Kennedy scored on a 19-yard touchdown run to give the Baymen a 21-6 lead.

But Glenn roared back. Matt Shanerman scored on a 17-yard run and converted a two-point pass attempt to Mike Tufano. The Knights forced a punt from Hampton Bays and Shanerman and Tufano hooked up for a 35-yard touchdown pass to make it 21-20. But Glenn missed the point-after attempt wide left.

"It was a tremendous break for us; we were thinking we would go into overtime," Oestreicher said.

Kennedy finished with 80 yards and a TD on 16 carries. Justin Carbone was 6-for-12 passing for 65 yards and a TD and he rushed for 45 yards. Cody Nolan led the defense with 12 tackles. Alex Lane added eight tackles and a fumble recovery and Ryan Cavanaugh had six tackles and an interception.
