Lightning halts game at half with Lynbrook up 28-7

The only thing faster than Lynbrook's scoring drives Thursday afternoon at Plainedge was the lightning that flashed at halftime, causing the second half of the Conference III game to be postponed until 3 p.m. Friday.
The Owls led Plainedge 28-7 behind Mike Kozlakowski's two touchdowns and two PAT runs on his only four carries.
The first, a 55-yard dash up the middle, capped a two-play, 99-yard drive. Travis Lock, who rushed for 115 yards in two quarters, had a 44-yard gain on a sweep left on the first play. The extra-point kick was blocked, making it 6-0 with 5:59 to play in the first quarter.
Plainedge answered with an 11-play, 77-yard drive that ended with Matt Kelty's 4-yard touchdown on a halfback option pass from Ralph Caccavale.
Luke Spitzer returned the ensuing kickoff to his 36-yard line, and on the first play of the drive, Lock broke past the line, cut left and went down the sideline for a 64-yard score to make it 12-7.
Spitzer was all over the field in the second quarter. On third-and-5 from midfield, he picked off a Plainedge pass that deflected off a receiver's hands and raced 67 yards for a touchdown to give Lynbrook a 20-7 lead.
Plainedge was forced to punt on the ensuing possession, and Spitzer returned the kick 44 yards to the Red Devils' 13-yard line. Four plays later, Kozlakowski took a handoff off tackle right 4 yards for his second touchdown.
Kozlakowski ran in his second two-point conversion to make it 28-7 with 1:30 left in the half.
As the teams were walking out to the field from their locker rooms for the second half, lightning flashed over the field, prompting a mandatory 30-minute delay. The coaches huddled with the referees as the storm intensified, and they agreed before the 30 minutes were up to resume play this afternoon.
The extra day of rest will be helpful for Plainedge's All- County tight end/defensive tackle David Ng, who was playing on a gimpy left ankle he sprained at practice on Wednesday. He played defense for the entire half, but was with the offense only for its first series.
