Marino does it all in first game as Carey wins
Junior Steven Marino caught a 55-yard pass for a touchdown, kicked a 33-yard field goal and was 5-for-5 in extra points in his first varsity game for Carey in a 38-20 win over New Hyde Park Saturday in Nassau Conference II football.
Marino, who previously played soccer for Carey, played for the junior varsity in 2009. Andrew Dileonardo recovered a fumble with 9:38 left in the third quarter to set up Giuliano Bove's 9-yard scoring run on the next play to give Carey a 38-0 lead. Kyle Zahradka was 6-for-12 for 124 yards and two touchdowns and John Daddino caught a touchdown and ran for a score. Tom Opitz, Rob Zorn and Daddino each had six tackles. New Hyde Park is 0-1.
Elmont 33, Bellmore JFK 0: Jaquan Smith rushed for 114 yards on 10 carries and scored two touchdowns, and had two receptions for 74 yards and one touchdown in one half of play to lead Elmont (1-0). Qusarn Caldwell was 7-for-9 for 110 yards and two touchdowns. He rushed for 71 yards and a score. Charlie Dimoh had eight tackles and a sack. Bellmore JFK is 0-1.Valley Stream Central 33, Great Neck South 0: Brendan Hickey had two sacks, Francisco Montalvo had eight tackles and Victor Ochi had one sack and four tackles for losses for Valley Stream Central (1-0). Central held South (0-1) to just three first downs, minus-17 yards rushing and only 32 yards of total offense. Danny Napolinello scored three touchdowns, the first on a 90-yard kickoff return on the opening play of the game. Laton Butler rushed 14 times for 157 yards, including a 65-yard score.
Wantagh 35, Long Beach 7: Mike Scully rushed for 163 yards and a touchdown and Jake Reicherter rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries for Wantagh (1-0). Ryan Walsh had nine tackles and Michael Games had an interception and fumble recovery for Wantagh, which forced four turnovers. Long Beach is 0-1.
Westbury 34, Roslyn 6: Brandon Wilson rushed for 180 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries and scored on a 65-yard reception for Westbury (1-0). Edwin Jean-Baptiste had 10 tackles, including two for losses. Roslyn is 0-1.
