Mepham's Lozada has hairline fracture
Mepham's Elias Lozada, a core member of the football program at outside linebacker and tight end, will likely be out until at least the start of the playoffs with a hairline fracture in his right fibula, according to coach Anthony Cracco.
Lozada, a 6-foot, 185-pound senior, sustained the injury during the Oct. 1 game at Wantagh. Late in the fourth quarter, with Mepham driving, Wantagh intercepted a pass. Lozada went after the ball and twisted his ankle, according to his father, Miguel Lozada.
Lozada, who amassed five sacks and 49 tackles in just under four full games this season, didn't need assistance to walk off the field after hurting his ankle. The prescription is 4-6 weeks of rest, keep pressure off the ankle and keep it elevated, according to Miguel.
