Quarterback Joecephus Vanable's 65-yard touchdown run with 10:25 remaining lifted Hempstead to a 20-14 win over Hicksville yesterday in Nassau I.

On the designed run, Vanable cut to his right and sprinted up the sideline. In his first start at quarterback, Vanable ran for 110 yards and completed 2 of 4 passes for 86 yards.

Darius Meadors rushed for 125 yards and a TD for Hempstead (2-5). Cornerback Brandon Johnson made eight tackles and Tashawn Johnson intercepted a Hicksville pass in the end zone with eight seconds left to seal the win.

Massapequa 41, Plainview JFK 6:Craig Berge had 186 yards and three TDs on six receptions for Massapequa (5-2). Berge also had an interception and kicked five extra points. Matt Caracappa completed 9 of 10 passes for 301 yards and four TDs. Nick Capuana had two catches for 102 yards and a TD, and also ran for 46 yards and a score. Paul Dilena made 13 tackles.

Farmingdale 51, Uniondale 6:Curtis Jenkins rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns and caught a 48-yard TD for Farmingdale (7-0).

Vinny Quinn completed 2 of 3 passes for 63 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for a score.

"He's a leader at quarterback," coach Buddy Krumenacker said of Quinn. "He had total command of the offense."

Tom Kennedy had a 15-yard TD catch and an interception. Kicker Zach Kolodny was 7-for-7 on extra points.

Freeport 36, Valley Stream Central 0:Davelle Hooks completed 8 of 15 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown, and ran for 30 yards and two scores to lead Freeport (5-2). D'Monte Woody rushed for 135 yards and a TD. Woody returned an interception 77 yards for a score to give the Red Devils a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
