Pantelides, Clarkin connect late to lift Mineola
Nico Pantelides caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Rob Clarkin with one minute left to give Mineola a 30-23 win over Valley Stream North Saturday in a Nassau Conference IV football game.
Steve Napolitano rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries for Mineola (1-0). Valley Stream North (0-1) rallied from a 23-7 fourth-quarter deficit to tie the score on two touchdowns and two two-point conversions.
East Rockaway 21, Floral Park 17: Mike Castellano caught the winning TD pass on third-and-12 from Andrew Bashford on the opening play of the fourth quarter to lead East Rockaway (1-0). On the first play from scrimmage, Castellano scored on an 82-yard run and on the ensuing kickoff, Ronell Jones of Floral Park scored an 80-yard kick return. Castellano rushed for 188 yards on 23 carries. Andrew Viola had 15 tackles for Floral Park (0-1).
Locust Valley 47, Oyster Bay 26: Alexander Minicozzi rushed 15 times for 234 yards and three touchdowns, and Joseph Jacobi was 6-for-9 for 191 yards and three TDs as Locust Valley (1-0) opened with a 27-0 lead.
Tyler Burhans had four catches for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Thomas Broker was 5-for-6 on extra points. Kevin Rieger and Frank Vezza had eight tackles apiece. Oyster Bay is 0-1.
North Shore 27, Clarke 15: Evan Vandoros had 212 total yards, including a 77-yard kickoff return for a touchdown for North Shore (1-0). Nick Capparelli had 95 total yards and three tackles and Zack Winslow added five tackles. Clarke is 0-1.
