St. John the Baptist, St. Peter's move on to Class A final
Derelle Hunter rushed for 241 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries to lead No. 1 St. John the Baptist (4-4) to a 42-2 victory at home over No. 4 Cardinal Spellman in the CHSFL Class A semifinals Sunday afternoon.
Hunter opened the game with a 96-yard kick return for a touchdown and then gave SJB a 12-0 lead with a 3-yard TD run. He added a 24-yard, second-quarter score to make it 29-0.
The Cougars fourced four turnovers, including fumble recoveries by Derrick McMichael and Robert Kretz and interceptions from Austin Kraft and Chris McCarthy. McMichael, who made nine tackles, and McCarthy also had sacks. Tyler Slack added five tackles.
McMichael, Terrance Collins and Joe Farella all ran for touchdowns, while Jack Brady ran for a two-point conversion. Mathieu Mocombe added 30 yards on six carries, and Conor Lewis was 2-for-3 on extra points.
St. John the Baptist will play host No. 2 St. Peter's, a 36-20 winner over No. 3 Bishop Ford Sunday, in the Class A final at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
