Sayville quarterback Steven Ferreira was injured on the first play of the game Saturday against Kings Park. Ferreira, trying to avoid pressure, was tackled on a scramble and came off the field with a bloodied nose.

According to Sayville coach Rob Hoss, it wasn't clear on the game video how Ferreira was injured on the play.

"He came off with a bloody nose and our trainer felt it was broken," Hoss said. "So we weren't taking any chances and sent him to the hospital."

Sayville won the Suffolk III game, 18-6.

Ferreira, Long Island's all-time leader in career passing yardage with 5,589, was having a stellar season with 1,621 yards passing and 20 touchdowns. He has 64 career touchdown passes, just four shy of tying the record set by Tony Capozzoli of St. Dominic from 1972-75.

"He does have a broken nose and his dad said he was fine," Hoss said. "They had to set his nose. But he'll be good to go for next week. We ordered a special visor for his helmet to protect him. He wears a Revolution helmet and the only visor that fits is the Oakley brand and that's what the doctor wanted. So we ordered the visor and he'll be fine."
