Latrell Horton stopped Ryan Sheridan’s two-point conversion run that would have tied the score with 54 seconds left, and Longwood held on for a 28-26 win Friday over Commack in its Suffolk I opener. After relinquishing a 20-6 lead — the tying score coming on Sheridan’s 44-yard touchdown pass to Ronnie Beard early in the fourth — Longwood went on a five-play, 65-yard drive to go up 28-20 with 5:20 left.

Jake Murphy’s runs of 14 and 31 yards helped set up Horton’s 6-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion. Horton had 129 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns and had an interception. Jalen Hunter (two sacks), Jordan Harris, Maleik Bonner and Murphy each had 12 tackles.

Floyd 37, Connetquot 26: Mike Bradley put Floyd on the scoreboard first with a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown in the first quarter. Bradley finished with two interceptions, seven tackles and a sack. Nick Silva had 171 rushing yards, including a touchdown. Sebastian Paniccia gave the Colonials an 11-point lead with a 35-yard field goal with 1:54 remaining in the game.

Patchogue-Medford 23, Brentwood 7: Mikel Keane returned an interception 25 yards for a score to give Patchogue-Medford a 23-7 lead in the fourth quarter. Nick Stagnitta rushed for 152 yards on 27 carries. James Terribile and Dalton Rhodes led the defense with three sacks each.

Lindenhurst 21, Bay Shore 0: Jeremy Ruckert had six receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown and also recorded two sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery, to lead Lindenhurst. Austin Perry was 14 of 24 for 170 yards and two touchdowns.

Malik Grant recovered two fumbles, one of which he returned for a 17-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Sachem North 17, Central Islip 6: Chris Fasano’s 55-yard interception return for a touchdown gave Sachem North a 17-6 lead with 2:43 remaining in the game. Fasano also had a strip-sack in the end zone, resulting in the ball rolling out of the endzone for a safety to go along with five tackles and three sacks. Alezandro Aponte had 143 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries to lead the Sachem North offense.

Whitman 30, Sachem East 0: Isaiah Wilkerson completed 6 of 18 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns and added a five-yard touchdown run to lead Whitman. Jamari Brown had 120 receiving yards on four receptions with two touchdowns, including a 70-yard score.
