Sobotker, Peters lead N. Babylon
The North Babylon football team used its smash-mouth, ground-and-pound offensive approach to grind out a 23-6 win against Half Hollow Hills East (2-5) in Suffolk II yesterday.
Brandon Sobotker had 18 carries for 123 yards and two touchdowns for host North Babylon (6-1). Anthony Peters added 10 rushes for 71 yards and a touchdown, and Greg Pimentel had 98 yards on 15 carries. Daniel Mistretta, who was 2-for-3 on point-after kicks, hit a 26-yard field goal in the fourth quarter. Shaker McPherson had two picks and Sean Fay added five tackles.
Smithtown West 40, Copiague 20: Kyle Zawadzki rushed for 221 yards on 20 carries with two touchdowns, and was 11 of 19 passing for 118 yards and two more scores to lead the Bulls (1-6) to their first win of the season. Zawadzki added a pair of two-point conversion passes, a two-point run and accounted for 30 of his team’s 40 points. Jimmy Caddigan had 10 tackles and threw a 70-yard pass to Zack Policino. Copiague is 0-8.
Centereach 26, Smithtown East 0: Alec Kiernan rushed 35 times for 264 yards and three touchdowns for Centereach (4-3). Kiernan added eight tackles and a sack. Shawn McFarland rushed six times for 73 yards and a touchdown, and had eight tackles. Kevin Amaya had a team-high 11 tackles and Vinny Liotta added nine tackles. The Centereach defense held Smithtown East (4-3) to 94 yards of total offense.
West Islip 28, Huntington 7: Drew Cestaro rushed for 207 yards on 23 carries and had three touchdown runs for West Islip (7-0). Jake Guercio had 15 carries for 45 yards, and added a 1-yard touchdown. Kevin DiCapua made all four of his extra point attempts. Tim Mullane and Rob Skibinski each had nine tackles. Huntington is 4-3.
Half Hollow Hills West 26, Riverhead 6: Deyvon Wright had 27 carries for 210 yards and three touchdowns for Half Hollow Hills West (5-2). TJ Anatra had a 45-yard punt return for a touchdown, and Cherrod White had six tackles for Hills West. Riverhead is 1-6.
