Nassau and Suffolk high school athletic officials will meet Thursday to discuss the status of the football playoffs, scheduled to begin Friday night, with the likelihood that they will be pushed back a week.

Practice time and field availability are major issues, given that many Long Island schools may not open this week. If the 32 football games scheduled this weekend in Nassau and Suffolk are postponed a week, the Long Island Championships, scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend at Hofstra and Stony Brook University, would be played the following weekend. The eight county championship football games would be played on Thanksgiving weekend.

The status of games in all other sports scheduled for the rest of the week also will be discussed Thursday.

Long Island's Catholic Leagues, including the CHSFL, announced the postponement of all athletic events until at least next week.
