Can the freight train that is Plainedge football be stopped? The two-time defending Long Island Class III champions have steamrolled six straight opponents this season.

They are winning games by an average of six touchdowns, averaging 40 points and allowing less than a touchdown a game.

The Red Devils roll into undefeated Wantagh for a Nassau Conference III game at 2 p.m. Saturday.  The game will determine the top seed in the playoffs. Both teams are 6-0.

Wantagh has been winning with a strong run game behind halfback Nick Cupelli, who has rushed for 923 yards and nine touchdowns. Junior quarterback Joe Legovich has given Wantagh balance with seven TD tosses.

They’ll need to find a way to penetrate the Plainedge defense, which has yielded 29 points all season. The Red Devils have won the last five games in this series, the last three by an average margin of 22 points.

SUFFOLK II

Half Hollow Hills East at Lindenhurst, Friday, 6 p.m.: Lindenhurst has never lost to Hills East. The Bulldogs have won all five meetings, including a 17-13 decision last season. Hills East is currently holding onto the eighth and final playoff spot in the division — a win here for the T-Birds could catapult them into the top four and a potential home playoff game — so there is a lot at stake in this one. Lindenhurst has allowed a division-low 62 points and would guarantee a home playoff game with a win.

SUFFOLK IV

Glenn at Bayport-Blue Point, Friday, 6 p.m.: Bayport-Blue Point looks to complete its first unbeaten regular season since 1990. The Phantoms feature quarterback Brady Clark, who has thrown for 825 yards and 14 touchdowns. The Aiello brothers, Danny and J.J., are the top rusher and receiver, respectively, for the Phantoms. Quarterback Chris Franzese is a two-way threat for the Knights. He has rushed for 823 yards and nine touchdowns and has passed for 613 yards and eight scores. These teams met in back-to-back weeks last season with Bayport winning both games. The Phantoms won the week eight meeting 26-20 and then blew out Glenn 35-0 a week later in the first round of the playoffs.

NASSAU I

Farmingdale at Massapequa, Saturday, 2 p.m.:  This is one of Long Island’s best football rivalries when these neighboring communities play for the top seed in the conference. Massapequa, the defending Long Island Class I champion, has won three of the last four meetings, including last season’s 28-7 win in the conference semifinal playoff. Farmingdale’s halfback duo of Tomaso Ramos and sophomore Sal Posillico lead the Dalers' potent ground game. Quarterback Anthony Licci has thrown for 643 yards and 13 scores to lead a balanced attack that averages 44 points per game. Massapequa quarterback Paul Dulanto has passed for 746 yards and 14 touchdowns and will need a big day to win this one.

NASSAU I

Freeport at Baldwin, Saturday, 2 p.m.: This is one of Nassau's oldest football rivalries, situated on Nassau’s south shore. The first meeting between these two schools occurred in 1924 and Freeport leads the all-time series, 50-30-1. The Red Devils have won the last seven meetings. Baldwin is much improved behind Anthony Byron, who has rushed for 582 yards and 10 touchdowns. Freeport needs a win to clinch a playoff berth. The added incentive for a Baldwin win would be the ability to secure a home playoff game.

CHSFL

Chaminade at Holy Trinity, Saturday, 1:30 p.m.: Holy Trinity comes into this game with a 7-0 record in Class AA-1 and riding a 17-game winning streak. The Titans last defeated Chaminade (3-3 in Class AAA) in 2010 by a score of 27-0. They have lost the last four meetings against the Flyers. Titans quarterback Rocco Rainone and Chaminade’s Matt Dieguez can open the field with dynamic passing games. The Titans' Jameer Reeder balances the offense with a speedy ground game.
