When Dylan Laube came to the sideline after a 48-yard touchdown run in the third quarter of Westhampton’s 42-35 win over Eastport-South Manor Saturday, he was supposed to be done.

With Westhampton (3-0) up 28 points, the coaching staff wanted to give their workhorse back a break.

But as Eastport-South Manor mounted a comeback, Laube went back in the game. He added more than 150 yards to his already lofty total, finishing with 430 yards, the third most in Long Island history. He had five touchdowns on 28 carries. “He just put us on his back and did what he had to do,” Westhampton coach Bill Parry said.

And still Laube’s day wasn’t done. Eastport-South Manor faced a fourth-and-6 on Westhampton’s 12-yard line with 57 seconds left in the game.

In a zone defense, Laube read the quarterbacks eyes and left his zone, and dived to knock away a pass and save the game. “If he didn’t do that, they score and we go into overtime,” Parry said. “He’s just an outstanding overall football player.”

East Islip 26, Islip 7: Dylan Rigo had 25 carries for 280 yards and three touchdowns to lead East Islip (1-2). Rigo’s 70-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter put the game away. Devin Olsen added six carries for 25 yards and a touchdown. Chase Bolster and Mike Drywa each had eight tackles. Stone Locke and Ryan Hanratty added sacks.

Half Hollow Hills West 51, Harborfields 0: Justin Brown rushed for 134 yards on six carries with three rushing touchdowns to lead Half Hollow Hills West (2-1).

Deyvon Wright had 12 carries for 115 yards and a touchdown and Sadiq Hinds ran for 60 yards on seven carries and a touchdown. Peter Adler went 6-for-7 on point after attempts and added a 38-yard field goal. Joey Venezia had six tackles.

Rocky Point 21, Comsewogue 0: Pete LaSalla had 18 carries for 205 yards and a touchdown and caught one pass for 30 yards and a touchdown to lead Rocky Point (1-2). Alec Rinaldi’s 25-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter capped the scoring and Rinaldi led the defense with 12 tackles and three sacks.
