Giordano, Carlins lead Wheatley/Carle Place
Junior Greg Giordano had a career-high seven assists for Wheatley/Carle Place in a 12-7 win over West Hempstead in the first lacrosse game held at Carle Place High School, according to coach Rich Donovan. Giordano dished out four assists in a 6-0 first quarter for Wheatley/Carle Place, which usually plays its home games at Wheatley, in its Conference B-II opener. Brothers Kevin and Greg Carlin each scored four goals for the victors, while Mike Castagna and Danny Sheeler both scored two for West Hempstead (0-1).GIRLS LACROSSE
Baldwin 14, East Meadow 12: Brianna Nozdrovicky, who finished with three goals and one assist, scored on an assist from Allie Rodgers with 1:52 left in the first overtime to give Baldwin (4-1) a 13-12 lead in Conference III. She added another in the second overtime to make it 14-12. Shakoya Smith (three goals, one assist) scored with 40 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 12. Danielle O'Leary led East Meadow (1-3) with a game-high five goals. Harborfields 13, Bellport 12: Sarah Crowley scored her third goal of the game with 3:15 remaining in the second half to give Harborfields (2-1) a 13-12 lead in Division II. Shannon Gitlitz scored four goals with one assist for Harborfields. Kelly Palace led Bellport (2-1) with a game-high five goals.
