Long Island girls basketball: Highest single-game scoring performances this season

As the playoffs approach, Long Island girls basketball players continue to raise the bar. This winter has featured an array of unforgettable showings. Here are the highest scoring single-game performances by public school and CHSAA players, as of Feb. 12.
45 points: Samantha Schneider, Syosset
Schneider, who leads Long Island with 27 points per game, scored 45 points in a 64-54 win over Freeport on Jan. 29. She made 13 free throws.
38 points: Maeve Downing, New Hyde Park; Claire McKenzie, Mattituck
Downing scored 38 points to go with 13 rebound in a 75-62 win over Herricks on Dec. 29.
McKenzie finished with 38 points after scoring all 11 of her team's points in the fourth quarter of a 56-46 win over Southampton on Jan. 26.
36 points: Emma Burmeister, Lindenhurst; Ella Colongeli, Glenn; Eve Leroy, Westbury; Kimora Pearson, Bay Shore; Zahara Saintyl, Uniondale; Kayla Solomon, St. Mary’s
Burmeister recorded a triple-double with 36 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals against Newfield on Jan. 8.
Colongeli, an eighth-grader, scored more than half of her team’s 61 points with 36 against Wyandanch on Dec. 20.
Leroy, a freshman, scored 36 points against East Meadow on Jan. 13.
Pearson knocked down seven three-pointers on her way to 36 points in a 82-31 win over Summit (NJ) on Dec. 6.
Saintyl had 36 points and 17 rebounds against Hicksville on Feb. 5.
Solomon scored 36 points with seven three-pointers in a 76-32 win over Baldwin on Feb. 10.
35 points: Brooke Simmons, Glen Cove
Simmons hit four three-pointers on her way to 35 points against Hicksville on Dec. 3.
