Wanted to provide some insight on Lynbrook’s 55-39 win over Great Neck North Friday.

Great Neck North started off on a 7-2 run, Lynbrook called a timeout and regrouped. The Owls closed the first quarter on a 15-1 run and never looked back.

Brooke Gerstman had 27 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and five assists for Lynbrook. She whipped the ball three-quarters of the court to set up a basket in the first quarter. In the second quarter she had a steal near midcourt and lobbed a high-arcing pass to Shannon Baker who took it in for a lay up to make the score 31-15.

Jennifer Doppelt (above) had 21 points for an overmatched Great Neck North squad. Doppelt is going through a similar decision-making process to Gerstman regarding college, weighing Division III basketball or attending school at Penn State.

The Blazers are without Talia Etessami for the rest of the season and will battle Manhasset for the third-place spot in Conference A-III.
