Wantagh’s Stan Bujacich has been the humble leader of the Warriors girls basketball team for 23 seasons. In his tenure, Wantagh has blossomed into (and sustained) one of the most successful programs in Nassau.

Bujacich doesn’t like the spotlight, but he was the center of attention Tuesday when he picked up his 300th career win in a 53-21 victory over New Hyde Park.

“You have to have great kids, first of all,” Bujacich said. “I’ve been fortunate to have fabulous athletes and great people. They’re very dedicated.”

Assistant coach Erin Colton, who played for Bujacich from 1998 to 2000, has been involved with the program as a coach for eight years. She’s seen many of his accomplishments first-hand.

“He puts his heart and soul into every minute of practice, every second of the game,” she said. “He lives, breathes and eats the program.”

Wantagh is currently 5-2 (3-0 Nassau A-II) and poised for more success under his watch this season.
