Heavy rain and lightning led to a postponement of the Nassau Class C girls lacrosse final on Wednesday night.

Both Wantagh and Manhasset were pulled off the field at Adelphi at 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday and minutes later, heavy rain and lightning began. Half an hour later the game was postponed and will be resumed at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Adelphi.

Wantagh led Manhasset, 7-5, with 6:56 left in the third quarter at the time of the postponement.

Manhasset had just scored its third goal in a span of 59 seconds to cut Wantagh’s 7-2 halftime lead to 7-5. Wantagh called a timeout after Nicole Giannakopoulos scored off an assist from Cassidy Harley for Manhasset with 6:56 left in the third quarter. Before coming out of the timeout, officials met on the field with both the coaches and the teams exited the field.

Top-seeded Manhasset (11-5) is going for its sixth straight county championship and No. 2 Wantagh (11-4) is seeking its first county title since 2017.

The winner advances to play Sayville (18-0) in the Long Island Class C final/Southeast Regional final at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Longwood.
