Alyssa Gillespie's goal helps West Islip best top-seeded Northport
It took Alyssa Gillespie two minutes to do what most teams couldn't do all season . . .
She scored a goal against Northport.
Gillespie knocked in a rebound off a shot by Cassidy Rollman in just the second minute to propel No. 5 West Islip to a 2-0 win over top-seeded Northport in the Class AA soccer semifinals Monday. Entering the game, Northport had allowed only one goal all season.
Rollman added a goal in the 22nd minute off a through ball from Vanessa Cosantino to increase the lead to 2-0.
Carly Koehler anchored the defense in the shutout and Cali Loeffler made 12 saves.
Northport, which beat West Islip in the county final last season to win a second straight championship, finishes the season 16-2.
West Islip (14-3-1) plays No. 2 Smithtown West in the county final Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Dowling. It will be the fifth county championship game in seven seasons for the Lions, who captured the title in 2009.
