Keri Cavallo gets 2 assists as South Side girls beat Division

The South Side girls soccer team opened its Nassau Conference A-I play the same way it ended it last season, by beating Division at home, 3-0, Tuesday.
The Cyclones knocked off Division in the Nassau Class A championship game en route to their state title, and started the season with an impressive win over the team that proved to be their toughest challenge from a year ago.
"We struggled with them during the season last year," South Side coach Shannon McEntee said. "We lost to them the first time, tied them the second time and then finally beat them in the playoffs, so it's nice to start off the season with this win and get off on the right foot."
South Side (2-0, 1-0) got on the board midway through the first half when midfielder Meghan Hines sent a long ball to forward Keri Cavallo from her own end. Cavallo then delivered a through ball across to Christina Klaum, who tapped the ball home to give South Side the lead at 25:37. McEntee said it was great to see her top offensive players in sync so early in the season.
"It was a great combo between the three of them to get that first goal," she said. "[Cavallo] and [Klaum] have played together for a year now, and they're finding each other and flowing a lot better this year. They look good."
Stephanie Leonardo scored the second goal just minutes later off a corner kick from Kayla Hospodka, and Katie Ford scored the final goal of the game in the second half off Cavallo's second assist.
Junior keeper Sarah McCarthy made seven saves in her second varsity start, stepping in as the team's new goalie following its state championship season.
"She really had a presence tonight," McEntee said. "She made a couple of really good saves and really showed up."
