Lyndsey Sparks' goal lifts Islip to victory in state semifinal

The Islip girls soccer team defeated Williamsville East, 1-0, in the Class A state semifinals on Saturday at Tompkins-Cortland Community College.

Lyndsey Sparks' shot from just inside the top of the box deflected off the post, off the keeper and over the goal line with 1:23 remaining. The ball just barely passed over the line, keeper Sarah Panepento dove to knock it out, and Dominique Bono appeared to kick in the rebound. But referees later confirmed that the initial shot by Sparks crossed the line.

Islip advances to play the winner of Goshen Central and Jamesville-DeWitt on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Cortland University.
