Long Island Player of the Year: Brianna Passaro, St. Anthony’s, F, Sr.

Although she led the CHSAA with both categories with 21 goals and 11 assists, Brianna Passaro never went out of her way to be the one to take a shot.

"She's a 'we player,' not a 'me player,' " coach Sue Alber said. In doing so, Passaro led the Friars to a 17-0 record for their second clean sweep in a row.

"She's not that selfish player worrying about her always scoring the goals, she plays for the team," Alber said. "She's assisted a ton of goals as well, so I think that unselfish behavior has helped elevate her game and the team game."

Passaro, committed to play college soccer at Duquense, finished her varsity tenure with 46 goals and 24 assists, and had at least one point in 16 of St. Anthony's 17 games this season, including a goal in the Friars' 3-0 victory over Buffalo Nichols in the CHSAA state championship game.

"She's just such a dynamic player," Alber said. "She's just so smooth when she plays. She's so composed, but I think the big thing is she's a 'We player,' not a 'Me player."

Nassau Player of the Year: Lindsey Smith, Valley Stream South, D, Sr.

Five years ago, Lindsey Smith was a young, talented eighth-grader playing on a struggling varsity team. But the the losses piled up, Smith remained focused on being part of the turnaround.

Fast forward to her senior season, and Smith became a leader from the backline as Valley Stream South won its first Class A state championship.

"She set a standard for the program, she's been the role model," coach Demetri Adrahtas said. "She's someone people can aspire to be and look up to in big moments."

None bigger than with the score tied in double-overtime, Smith delivered a strike for the winning goal as the Falcons defeated Vestal, 3-2, in the Class A state semifinals.

A physical player, Adrahtas said the Army commit acts as an on-field defensive coordinator, helping to align and get the rest of the defense in the right positioning throughout the game.

"She dominates a game from the back, which is not easy to do on a soccer field," Adrahtas said. "And I think when you can dominate a game from the backline and take over a game from the back line, that's a special player."

Cubby Biscardi, Sacred Heart, M, Sr.

An athletic, physical defensive midfielder, the four-year varsity player helped lead Sacred Heart to three straight league finals appearances, including a CHSAA state title in 2016. She had a goal and six assists this year and finished with 10 goals and 10 assists over her four seasons. She will play lacrosse at Duke.

Dominique Bono, Islip, F, Sr.

She led the Buccaneers to the Suffolk A title, scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Shoreham-Wading River for the crown. Bono finished the season with 17 goals and four assists and is committed to play at NYIT.

Jess Garziano, Half Hollow Hills East, M, Sr.

With some of the best dribbling abilities on Long Island, she led Half Hollow Hills East to a 13-win season, heading to the Suffolk AA final. She had 10 goals and six assists and is committed to play at St. John's University.

Brianna Jablonowski, St. Anthony’s, F, Jr.

A natural playmaker, she helped a prolific Friars offense to another CHSAA state championship. Jablonowski had 20 goals with six assists, scoring two goals in each the state semifinal and championship game. She had two goals in the state championship game.

Kayla Leary, East Meadow, D, Sr.

A standout defender with the knack for scoring in a key moment, she led the Jets to Nassau AA co-championship. Leary, who spent the majority of the game anchoring the backline, scored in all three playoff games, including heading in the winning goal in a 1-0 win over Baldwin in the semifinals.

Emily Leverich, Smithtown West, F, Jr.

The speedy striker led the Bulls to their first trip to the Class AA state semifinal in school history, and scored the winning goal in Smithtown West's 1-0 victory over Half Hollow Hills East in the Suffolk AA final. She finished the season with eight goals and six assists.

Jordyn Levy, Half Hollow Hills West, F, Soph.

With the playmaking ability to take over any game, she led the Colts with 21 goals and 14 assists, including scoring both goals in Half Hollow Hills West's 2-1 win over Kings Park in the quarterfinals. Her 35 points led Suffolk by 11 points.

Sydney Moore, Farmingdale, M, Sr.

With some of the best field vision and passing ability on Long Island, the four-year varsity midfielder led the Dalers with seven goals and six assists playing in Nassau AA-I. She's committed to Boston College.

Bryana Pizarro, Valley Stream South, F, Jr.

She finished tied for first on Long Island in points (44) with 30 goals and 14 assists for the Class A state champions. She had at least one point in 18 of 21 games, including a goal in the Falcons' 3-2 win over Vestal in the state semifinals.

Stephanie Sparkowski, East Meadow, G, Jr.

A standout goalkeeper at both the local and national level, Sparkowski helped guide East Meadow to a co-Nassau AA championship. She was also the Jets' go-to free kick option, finishing with a goal and three assists on the season. The Jets only allowed multiple goals in two of 18 games this year.

Long Island Coach of the Year: Demetri Adrahtas, Valley Stream South

He guided the Falcons to their first Class A state championship.  

Suffolk Coach of the Year: Rob Schretzmayer, Smithtown West

He guided the Bulls to their first Long Island Class AA championship.
