Long Island player of the year: Hope Breslin, Massapequa, M, Sr.

It was during Breslin's junior season that coach Bruce Stegner pointed out that the midfielder had the chance to become the Chiefs' all-time leading goal scorer. The back-to-back Long Island Player of the Year, admitted the scoring record became a goal of hers, but she wanted the team's third, and then fourth, consecutive championship more.

Although the Chiefs fell shy of No. 4 this year, losing in overtime to Arkington in the championship game, Breslin did become the program's leading scorer with 82 goals, eclipsing Rosie DiMartino's old mark of 67.

"I feel like it was a once-in-a-lifetime thing to accomplish," said Breslin, who will play at the University of Illinois after a 35-goal, 13-assist senior season. "And I couldn't have done it without my team through the years."

Suffolk player of the year: Jillian Colucci, Port Jefferson, F, Sr.

No one will ever accuse Jillian Colucci of playing selfishly. I always like to set my teammates up," she said. The Suffolk Player of the Year led the county in goals (32) and assists (20) to help catapult Port Jefferson to its second straight Class C state championship. "To win one was awesome," said the Marist-bound star, "but to go back and repeat it, it's an incredible experience."

Amber Birchwell, Floyd, F, Sr.

Using her size and strength, Birchwell led Suffolk AA schools with 27 goals and catapulted Floyd to the playoffs for the first time since 2008 after being in the developmental league her freshman year. She'll play at Providence next year.

Caitlin Cosme, Herricks, F/D, Sr.

Alternating between forward and defense depending on the score, she had eight goals and three assists for Herricks. Her combination of speed and soccer IQ makes her one of the most dangerous players on Long Island and she'll play at Duke next season.

Ally Diez, South Side, M, Sr.

The elusive playmaker had 12 assists with two goals for the Co-Nassau A champions. Her exceptional field vision separates herself on the field. She'll play next season at Dickinson College after finishing with six goals and 32 assists in four seasons.

Hannah Franco, Islip, M, Jr.

After missing last season's state championship run with an ankle injury, she rebounded with a 12-goal, 12-assist undefeated season, which ended in a penalty-kick loss to Mt. Sinai in the Suffolk A semifinals.

Sarah Harrington, Smithtown West, F, Sr.

Finished third in Suffolk AA with 16 goals and added seven assists using her size to lead the Bulls to the Suffolk AA title game. She'll play next season at Davidson.

Caitlin Kennedy, Sacred Heart, F, So.

Led CHSAA with 26 goals. Her quickness up top led a sophomore-rich team to its first CHSAA state championship since 2008.

Juliana Klaum, South Side, M, Sr.

The defensive-minded midfielder controlled the field for the Nassau A co-champions. The four-year varsity player heads to Sacred Heart University next season.

Francesca Picicci, St. Anthony’s, M. Sr.

With tremendous field vision, technical skills and work ethic at midfield, Picicci capped off her senior season with 11 goals and six assists to lead the undefeated Friars to the CHSAA championship match before losing to Sacred Heart in penalty kicks. She'll play at New Hampshire next season.

Stephanie Rapp, Northport, D, Sr.

As the defensive anchor for the Tigers and a four-year varsity member, Rapp led Northport to its the Suffolk AA championship. Northport allowed only seven goals all season against Suffolk schools and had 13 shutouts in an 18-2-1 season. She'll play at St. Joseph's University in Pennsylvania next season.

Megan Seel, Garden City, D, Sr.

She made her presence known as the do-it-all member for the Class A Long Island champions. A four-year varsity member, Seel anchored a back line that didn't allow a postseason goal until the state semifinal and had three goals and three assists on offensive.

Gillian Stapler, Calhoun, G, Sr.

Led Colts to a 9-4-5 season and the Nassau AA county championship game after a five-win 2015. The three-year starter had 160 saves this season and her size and athleticism consistently kept Calhoun in games. Stapler only allowed four multi-goal games all season in Nassau AA-I.

Julia Hannon, Massapequa , M, So.

Fighting through injuries toward the end of the season, Hannon scored her 10th goal of the year to give Massapequa a 1-0 lead in the state Class AA championship game. She finished with 10 goals and 14 assists and could be the focal point of Massapequa's program for the next two seasons.

Nassau coach of the year: Peter Bralower, Sacred Heart

Won school's first CHSAA title since 2008 with a team starting seven sophomores.

Suffolk coach of the year: Aija Gipp, Northport

Won school's first Suffolk AA county championship since 2013. Only losses came in tough matches to St. Anthony's and a one-goal loss to Massapequa in Long Islan
