Remember the Colts?
There is one simple question fueling the Half Hollow Hills West girl’s soccer season: “How will we be remembered?”
Although the slogan applies to the entire team, it’s dedicated to a group of five seniors - Lauren Casadonte, Tiarra Barbarito, Jackie DiMaria, Lauren Pabisch, and Bryce Kristall – who are concluding their four-year stay as varsity starters.
Half Hollow Hills split into two programs – East and West - four years ago and West has yet to advance to the playoffs, narrowly missing a berth last season at 5-6-1. After key league wins this past week over North Babylon and West Babylon, Hills West improved to 5-0 overall and is playing like a team destined for postseason play. With the seniors providing the leadership, junior forward Marissa Rosen leading the offense, and junior sweeper Christina Magel anchoring the defense, it could be a season to remember for the Colts.
“The camaraderie and the togetherness they are showing is phenomenal and hasn’t always been there in the past,” Hills West coach Keith Ginsberg said. “Now nobody is worrying about who is scoring, it’s all about the team. It’s collectively as a group that they are going to accomplish their goals.”
