Honorable Mention: a) Freshman Emily Pius scored the winning goal as a young Stony Brook team upset Port Jefferson to win fifth straight county title; b) Nicolette Scrozzo scored the winner with four minutes left in the second overtime period to lift Smithtown West over Commack in the first round; c) Bayport-Blue Point’s Mackenzie Miller, Nicole Copping and Kaitlyn Leahy each scored second-half goals in an eight minute span to beat Mt. Sinai, 3-1, in first round.

10. Outbracket drama: Whitman won a shootout over West Babylon behind goals from Sammy Servedio, Taylor O’Toole, Alyssa Vallar and Annie Coleman and two game-clinching stops by keeper Samantha Myers-Dineen. Sachem East beat Eastport-South Manor, 2-1, after Laurie Semetsis knocked in a rebound with 29 seconds remaining.  The exciting finishes in the outbracket games were a sign of things to come for the 2011 postseason.

9. Jonesing for a goal: After being stopped on a potential game-winning breakaway earlier in the game, Emily Jones (pictured) got a second opportunity and scored the winning goal with 1:01 remaining as Sachem North beat Connetquot, 2-1, in the quarterfinals.

8. The return of JoJo: JoJo Murino missed only two weeks with a fractured ankle and received clearance to return for the playoffs. After shootout goals by Teddi Petre and Lauren Worden and key stops by keeper Alix Lopez, Murino fired into the back of the net as No. 14 Connetquot upset No. 3 East Islip in the first round.

7. Ward Melville wins controversial shootout: If a player shoots before the referee’s whistle during a shootout, should the shot be retaken? That was the question that led to a protest and delayed Ward Melville's 3-2 shootout win over Deer Park in the quarterfinals. Despite the early shot, keeper Ally Ramos made the save, which stood, and Ward Melville, behind shootout goals from Jordan Porretto, Caysea Cohen and Emily Rogers, advanced en route to a county championship. Also, Tara O’Hern had given Ward Melville a 2-1 advantage with five minutes remaining in the second overtime but Deer Park’s Alyssa Cavalcante tied the game a minute later off a corner kick.  A moment that almost deserves its own spot on the list.

6. Three-peat in Center Moriches: Alexis Parlato scored two goals, which was more than enough for Brianna Mascia, Takia Plummer and keeper Kelsey Glanzman, who up to that point had only allowed one goal all season. Center Moriches went on to defeat Mattituck, 2-0, to capture its third straight county championship.
