Grossman, Maerki, Lowe make All-State team
Zach Grossman, Jack Maerki and Matt Lowe were named to the boys golf All-State team after finishing in the top 20 at the state golf championships at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell Monday.
Grossman, a senior from East Hampton, tied for 17th place and was named to the team for the second time in his high school career.
Maerki, also a senior, from Bay Shore, shot 79 in the first round and finished with 156 to make the All-State team for the third consecutive year.
"We were consistent," Section XI coordinator Ken Ferrazzi said of his contingent, which was made up of several underclassmen. "It was a good experience for them. They're a young team, so they'll be back."
Matt Lowe, a freshman from Farmingdale, finished in seventh place in the state and was named to his first All-State squad. Another freshman, Matt Csillag of Syosset, finished in 25th place for Nassau. Overall, Section VIII coordinator Larry Rose had four freshmen on his nine-person team.
"[Both sections] have very young teams that got some valuable experience," Rose said. "The future is looking good."
