Snow will impact many high school events
Mother Nature's overnight deposit of snow on the Island has resulted in plenty of postponements of high school athletics for Wednesday.
The Nassau gymnastics Coaches' Invitational and the Nassau Class A boys and girls track meet scheduled for Thursday have both been postponed.
The track meet has been moved to 6:30 p.m. Friday at Suffolk CC-Brentwood, but the reschedule date for the gymnastics is to be announced. Cold Spring Harbor was to host the event.
The Nassau boys and girls state qualifiers were pushed back by the Class A meet (originally scheduled for Saturday) and its makeup date will be determined.
In Suffolk, 13 boys and 11 girls basketball games are on the schedule. Many schools have already announced they will be closed Wednesday, and therefore no extracurricular activities will be held.
The Nassau Class AA boys and Nassau Class A girls basketball playoffs are scheduled to begin Thursday. Also on the slate for Thursday are the gymnastics state qualifier at Bethpage and the air rifle championship at Glen Cove.
No Suffolk games were originally scheduled for Thursday, making it a logical makeup date, provided the roads are maneuverable by then.
