Vitale leads Plainview girls gymnastics win
Bellmore-Merrick swimmer Dan Elliot (Calhoun High School) swims the butterfly stroke portion of the 200 yard individual medley en route to victory over host Long Beach High School in the varsity boys swimming event. Victoria Vitale was the big winner Friday, taking first on the vault (8.4), floor (9.5) and the all-around with a 34.35 for host Plainview JFK in a 166.1-159.65 win over Sewanhaka District in girls gymnastics.
Melissa Kropf took second on floor (9.0), Jordan Sack took second on bars (8.7), and Katrina Migliorini finished third on bars (8.5) and the floor (8.6).
Sewanhaka District's Stephanie Jennings won bars (8.8) and beam (8.8).
South Side 142.95, Great Neck South 136: Sydney Duncan took second in the all-around with a 29.95 to lead South Side. Duncan won on floor (7.8) and beam (7.95) and Kayleen Malivia won vault (8.0). Great Neck South's Mia Lauter won the all-around with a 30.40.WRESTLING
Garden City 61, Jericho 15: Freshman Tom Reina moved up a weight class and defeated Lewis Yablans in a major decision, 9-0, at 112 pounds for Garden City (3-0) in Conference 2B.
Lawrence 55, Valley Stream South 18: Carl Ravilus defeated Kenny Olsen, 18-10, scoring eight points in the third period at 189 pounds to help lift Lawrence (2-1) in Conference III-B.Rocky Point 50, Shoreham-Wading River 21: Matt Ross improved to 17-0 with an 8-0 decision over John Keck at 145 pounds for Rocky Point (2-0) in League VI.
Mattituck 63, Hampton Bays 9: Tomasz Filipkowski beat Dylan Flynn, the defending county champion at 160 pounds, 9-7, to lead Mattituck (1-1) in League VII.
BOYS SWIMMING
Bellmore-Merrick 122, Long Beach 64: Robert Cahn won the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.31) and the 500 freestyle (5:14.39) to lead Bellmore-Merrick (5-1), which recorded its first victory over Long Beach. Austin Kowalsky won the 100 butterfly (55.18) and the 100 backstroke (1:00.92) and Kevin Moran took first in 1-meter diving (207.3).
Jericho 61, Plainview JFK 41: Alex Popescu won the 500 freestyle (5:22.78) and Anthony Istomin won the 100 backstroke (1:00.41) for Jericho (6-0).
