By the narrowest of margins, Ward Melville edged Half Hollow Hills 171.425-171.025 to win the Suffolk Girls Gymnastics Team Championship at Smithtown East Tuesday.

The six-team meet was decided in the final event, the floor competition, with Hills leading Ward Melville (12-0) by 1.1 points. The Patriots had to average a 9.0 in order to overcome the deficit.

Ward Melville did just that, averaging a 9.13 with Alison LaRocca and Cydney Crasa each scoring a 9.425 and Eugenia Zhukovsky scoring a 9.35.

"There was a lot of pressure, we really hadn't been in that situation all year," coach Caryl Crasa said. "Our team really pulled together, though, and just didn't make any mistakes."
