Hauer hit helps Plainedge baseball advance
Joe Hauer had two hits and three RBIs Friday, including two in the top of the fifth inning, as No. 16 Plainedge overcame a one-run deficit to defeat No. 3 South Side, 12-2, in Game 3 of the Nassau Class A best-of-three baseball semifinals.
Mike Miller allowed six hits with five strikeouts, and Anthony Pensato went 2-for-4 with two RBIs as Plainedge (16-10) took the series, 2-1.
Plainedge will face No. 8 Island Trees in a best-of-three championship series starting Tuesday at Farmingdale State.
Eastport-South Manor 3, Bay Shore 2: Billy Goncalves went 2-for-3 and gave No. 3 Eastport-South Manor (21-3) a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a single in a Class AA losers' bracket fourth-round game. Mike Flynn added a hit and an RBI in the win. Dalton McCarthy gave up one run and four hits in five innings and Goncalves gave up one run over the final two innings to secure the win. Eastport-South Manor will face No. 4 Smithtown East on Saturday at 11 a.m.
