High school roundup: Girls and boys basketball playoff results

Jaclyn Engel made the go-ahead layup with four seconds remaining in No. 3 Ward Melville’s 30-29 victory over No. 6 Sachem East in the quarterfinals of the Suffolk Class AAA girls basketball playoffs on Friday. Engel had 22 points and three steals. Addison Scott added 15 rebounds, five steals and four blocks and Quinlan Heilbron had eight steals and seven rebounds. Ward Melville (17-3) will visit No. 2 Floyd in the semifinals at 5 p.m. on Friday. Katelyn Toia scored 15 points for Sachem East (11-10).

Floyd 55, Huntington 51: Milania Farrow made a three-pointer with 1.1 seconds remaining to give No. 2 Floyd a 54-51 lead in their win over No. 7 Huntington in the quarterfinals of the Suffolk Class AAA playoffs. Farrow had 24 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Savannah Pantry had 11 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and three blocks. Taleah Coppola had 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and five steals for Floyd (17-4). Ava McDonald scored 14 points and Jolie Weinschreider scored 13 for Huntington (13-8).

Whitman 53, Commack 47: Paige Hiller scored 13 points to lead No. 1 Whitman past No. 8 Commack in the quarterfinals of the Suffolk Class AAA playoffs. Hannah Creighton scored 12 points and Jazmynn Julien had 11. Whitman (19-1) will host No. 4 Copiague in the semifinals at 5 p.m. on Friday. Mia McBrien scored 11 points for Commack (11-10).

Manhasset 69, Calhoun 41: Pete Mastando scored 38 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead No. 5 Manhasset past No. 12 Calhoun (9-11) in the first round of the Nassau Class AA playoffs. Ari Patilis added 12 points. Manhasset (18-3) will visit No. 4 Jericho in the quarterfinals on Tuesday. Ashton Pierre-Charles scored 12 points for Calhoun (9-11).
