Destinee Williamson knocked down a floater through contact with 2:20 remaining in the first overtime period to give Deer Park the lead for good in a 47-46 non-league girls basketball win over Sayville on Saturday.
Just 20 seconds after her go-ahead score, Williamson pulled down a defensive rebound and pushed the ball up the court to an open Jamirah Jones, who got to the basket and laid it in with her left hand, giving Deer Park (3-5) a two-possession lead and securing the victory. Jones scored 18 points, and Jenna Delargy hit five three-pointers and finished with 17.
Dylan McNamara led Sayville (3-6) with 13 points and Julia Madsen contributed nine.
Carle Place 51, East Rockaway 44: Madison Reedy posted a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead Carle Place (5-3) in Nassau AB-III.
Ava Gomes also finished with a double-double, collecting 14 points and 14 rebounds in the win. Alexa Mifsud and Grace Esposito each chipped in seven points in the victory. Colleen Lynch and Paulina Cuthbert each led East Rockaway (6-2) with 13 points.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Southampton 71, East Hampton 70: Alex Franklin scored 25 points to help Southampton (1-1) overcome a 23-point deficit in the consolation game of the Southampton Mariner Athletic Club Christmas Tournament.
Brian Spellman contributed 19 points and Saevion Ward added 17 points in the win.
Toby Foster led all scorers with 26 points and Miles Menu added 22 for East Hampton (3-3).
