High school roundup: Baseball, softball and flag football

Joe Strining went 3-for-4 with a home run, triple and double and scored the go-ahead run on Aidan Devane’s single in the bottom of the sixth of No. 2 Sayville’s 4-3 win over No. 3 Bayport-Blue Point in the second round of the Suffolk Class A double-elimination playoffs Wednesday. Devane pitched two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.
Sayville (17-4) will face the winner of No. 1 Kings Park/No. 4 Shoreham-Wading River Saturday at noon. Ryan Kloss and Kieran Diemer each homered for Bayport-Blue Point (12-7), which will play an elimination game Saturday at noon.
Eastport-South Manor 3, Northport 2: Brady McGowan hit a tying two-run home run in the fifth and scored the winning run on an error with two outs in the bottom of the seventh of No. 1 Eastport-South Manor’s win over No. 9 Northport in the second round of the Suffolk Class AA double-elimination playoffs. McGowan went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Eastport-South Manor (20-1) will host the winner of No. 4 Hauppauge/No. 5 East Islip in the third round at 4 p.m. on Friday. Northport (11-9) will play an elimination game at 4 p.m. on Friday.
Carle Place 7, Cold Spring Harbor 5: Michael Tucholski hit a go-ahead RBI single and Tyler Marquart added an RBI single in a four-run seventh inning for No. 2 Carle Place in Game 2 of its Nassau Class B semifinal series with No. 3 Cold Spring Harbor. Connor Sheridan went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs for Cold Spring Harbor (12-9). Carle Place (16-5) will host Game 3 at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
North Shore 6, Island Trees 5: Jojo Basile hit a go-ahead RBI double in the top of the fifth to lead No. 5 North Shore over No. 4 Island Trees (12-11) in Game 3 of a Nassau Class A quarterfinal series. Jonathan Versocki had four RBIs, including a tying RBI double in the fifth. North Shore (13-10) will visit No. 1 Plainedge in the first of a three-game semifinal series at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
Oceanside 13, Farmingdale 10: Finn Rummenie went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs to lead No. 7 Oceanside over No. 2 Farmingdale (15-7-1) in Game 3 of a Nassau Class AAA quarterfinal series. Oceanside (6-14-2) will face No. 1 Massapequa on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
SOFTBALL
Kellenberg 1, Holy Trinity 0: Molly Silecchia struck out 11 in a two-hit shutout to lead No. 2 Kellenberg to an NSCHSAA semifinal series-clinching win over No. 3 Holy Trinity. Silecchia went 1-for-3 and scored on Gianna Abbenda’s single in the first inning. Kellenberg (17-8) will face No. 1 St. Anthony’s in the first of a three-game final series at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Hofstra. Jaeda Bartfield struck out eight for Holy Trinity (7-9).
Longwood 6, Comsewogue/Port Jefferson 5: Amanda Vaccaro struck out nine and went 2-for-3 with a home run and a double to lead No. 10 Longwood over No. 7 Comsewogue/Port Jefferson in the first round of the Suffolk Class AAA double-elimination playoffs. Addy Urso and Madison Vargas each added a home run. Longwood (12-9) will visit No. 2 Commack in the second round at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Comsewogue/Port Jefferson (14-7) will play an elimination game at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
FLAG FOOTBALL
Kings Park 19, Glenn 18: Riley Currier ran for a touchdown and caught the go-ahead 12-yard TD pass from Nikki Caratozzolo with 15 seconds left to help No. 4 Kings Park overcome an 18-0 deficit against No. 1 Glenn (9-6) in a Suffolk Class C semifinal. Kings Park (4-13) will face No. 2 Shoreham-Wading River in the final at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Patchogue-Medford.
