Babylon softball, Port Jefferson baseball earn Suffolk championships

Addy Bennett drove in Addy Janawsky with a walk-off single in the eighth inning of No. 2 Babylon’s 12-11 win over No. 1 Center Moriches in Game 2 of the Suffolk Class B softball championship series Friday at Martha Avenue Park. Babylon claimed its third straight county title. The Panthers trailed 11-7 heading into the bottom of the eighth. Brianna Mazeika’s two-run double tied the score at 11. Eliana Romero had two doubles and four RBIs and Julie Goldstein went 4-for-4 with an RBI and three runs. Babylon (11-6) will return to Martha Avenue Park to face Carle Place in the Long Island championship at 2 p.m. on June 6. Lilah Eten and Olivia Haney each had three RBIs for Center Moriches (11-11).
BASEBALL
Port Jefferson 6, Pierson 1: Jack Krause pitched 5 1⁄3 innings and allowed one run and Sam Matvya went 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs in No. 1 Port Jefferson’s win over No. 2 Pierson in Game 3 of the Suffolk Class C finals. The Royals won their first county title since 2023. Port Jefferson (15-6) will face the representative of Section I in the regional final 1 p.m. on June 6 at Purchase College. Pierson finished 15-7.

THURSDAY’S GAMES
Westhampton 8, West Islip 6: Maiya Boughal scored three goals in No. 4 Westhampton’s win over No. 1 West Islip in the semifinals of the Suffolk Class B playoffs. Mackenzie Klammer, Mia Mastropierro, Tierney McEntee and Reagan Schindler each scored a goal. Westhampton (9-8) will face No. 2 Smithtown West at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday at Stony Brook University in the final. West Islip finished 15-2.
