Tiffany Matthews went 3-for-3 and hit a go-ahead two-run triple in the fourth inning of top-seeded Long Island Lutheran’s 9-7 win over third-seeded Portledge in the PSAA softball final on Friday.

Matthews also struck out 10 in a complete game. Kaitlyn Lozano hit a grand slam and McKenzie Patterson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for LuHi (6-1). Leia Dominicci went 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs and Delila Cody went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Portledge (5-5).

Kellenberg 5, St. Anthony’s 2: Lauren O’Brien hit a two-run home run and totaled three RBIs to lead Kellenberg (13-8) in NSCHSAA. The win snapped the Friars’ 67-game winning streak against league opponents, dating to 2021. Hailey McGreevy allowed two runs and five hits in six innings to earn the win and Molly Silecchia pitched a scoreless seventh for the save. Olivia Feldman went 2-for-4 with a double and allowed one run in four innings of relief, striking out four for St. Anthony’s (18-5).

East Islip 6, Deer Park 5: Sophia Corso went 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs and a run to lead East Islip (11-4) past Deer Park (5-8) in Suffolk III. Marisa Renganeschi hit her first home run of the season in the fifth inning to give East Islip a 4-1 cushion.

BASEBALL

Pierson 4, Smithtown Christian 0: Finlay Panton threw a two-hitter and struck out 14 to lead Pierson (11-4) over Smithtown Christian (2-13) in Suffolk VIII. Spencer Cavaniola and Lincoln Fischer each had two RBIs.

Miller Place 2, Mount Sinai 1: Jacob Marcario threw a complete game, allowing one run on four hits, to lead Miller Place (12-4-1) past Mount Sinai (12-6) in Suffolk VI.

Commack 10, Connetquot 3: Ryan Bush hit an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning to spark a seven-run rally for Commack (12-5) against Connetquot (14-3) in Suffolk II. Luke Krzemienski had two hits, a run and an RBI in the inning and finished 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.

Westhampton 4, Hauppauge 0: Lucas Hefter threw a three-hit shutout with four strikeouts and added two hits and an RBI to lead Westhampton (8-8) past Hauppauge (11-6) in Suffolk V.

GIRLS LACROSSE

West Islip 13, Mount Sinai 12: Carly Obloj scored the golden goal off an assist from her cousin Kayley with 11.3 seconds remaining in the first overtime period to win it for West Islip (14-1) in Suffolk II. West Islip went down two players with four minutes left in the fourth quarter and spent the rest of the game shorthanded until the winner. Sophia Masone scored four goals for Mount Sinai (7-5).

Calhoun 9, Friends Academy 8: Sophia Palmeri scored four goals, including the winner with 30 seconds remaining, to lead Calhoun (9-6) in Nassau II. Alexa Cohen had four goals and one assist for Friends Academy (6-9).

BOYS LACROSSE

Sachem East 15, Lindenhurst 12: Mason Schutter made 29 saves, including a double save in a one-on-one situation in the fourth quarter, to help Sachem East (9-5) hold on in Suffolk I. Dom Marchitto totaled six goals and one assist. James Dee added three goals and three assists. Hunter DeRonde had four goals and two assists for Lindenhurst (11-4).

Shoreham-Wading River 17, Mount Sinai 14: Noah Gregorek totaled five goals and four assists to lead Shoreham-Wading River (8-5) in Suffolk II. Tommy Massaro won 31 of his 32 faceoff opportunities, scored five goals and handed out one assist for Mount Sinai (8-5).
