High school roundup: Gymnastics and boys and girls basketball

Alexa Danzi placed first on the balance beam with an 8.35, second on the uneven bars with a 7.5 and second in the all-around competition with a 31.7 to help lead Hicksville to a 153.25-147.5 win over Lynbrook in non-league gymnastics to open its season on Thursday. Grace Scelzi won the bars with an 8.1. Chloe Gan tied for first in the floor exercise with a 9.05 to help secure the win. For Lynbrook, Gianna Marafioti scored an 8.3 to win the vault and tied for first on floor with Gan, and Madison Buchala won the all-around with a 31.85.
BOYS BASKETBALL
East Islip 56, West Babylon 46: Tim Coakley had a team-high 17 points with eight rebounds for East Islip (1-2) in Suffolk III. Tom Buchan added 13 points and two steals. Tom Gomez hit three three-pointers to chip in 13 points. Noah Rosa had 17 points for West Babylon (1-3).
Portledge 81, Martin Luther 12: Carter Abrahams scored 21 points and hit three three-pointers to lead Portledge (2-3) in non-league. Raj Singh added 16 points and Josiah Warfield and Shainil Shah scored 13 points apiece in the win.
WEDNESDAY’S GAMES
Bethpage 66, MacArthur 61: Justin Serio scored 16 of his 37 points in the fourth quarter to lead Bethpage (2-2) to a comeback win in non-league play. Serio also had 11 rebounds and seven steals. Mateo Alvarez also contributed a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Stephan Lazaridis scored 10 points and had five assists in the win. Ivan Adames scored 21 points and made six three-pointers for MacArthur (1-2).
Sewanhaka 48, Great Neck North 45: Nnamdi Amadike posted a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds while also blocking six shots to help Sewanhaka (2-1) survive a late run by Great Neck North (1-3) in non-league. Jake Balazadeh led Great Neck North with 11 points.
Hewlett 72, Valley Stream South 54: Just Ortiz hit nine three-pointers and scored 33 points to lead Hewlett (3-1) in non-league. Gabe Bowery contributed a double-double with 16 points had 18 rebounds while also blocking six shots. Jaden Pryce scored 13 points for Valley Stream South (2-1).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Islip 46, Half Hollow Hills West 43: Rylee Moran led all scorers with 16 points for Islip (3-1) in Suffolk IV. Abbey Dieumegard and Reese Wallace scored 11 and 10 points, respectively. Amayah Burke and Emily Johnson led Hills West (1-2) with 11 points each.
Farmingdale 59, Hicksville 31: Molly McNamara posted a double-double with 25 points, including 22 in the first half, and 16 rebounds to lead Farmingdale (4-1) in Nassau AAA-I. She also added seven steals. Izzy Aristy had 13 points and six assists for the Dalers.
WEDNESDAY’S GAMES
North Shore 54, New Hyde Park 48: Erin Lily La Rosa finished with 22 points, six rebounds and four assists to lead North Shore (4-2) in non-league. Holly Freund (15 points, six assists, three steals) went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the final 40 seconds to help secure the win. Katina Pappas added five points and 14 rebounds. Maeve Downing led New Hyde Park (0-2) with 14 points.
Smithtown West 50, Deer Park 47: Alyssa Lorefice scored 16 points and Catherine Piccininni added 10 to lead Smithtown West (3-1) in Suffolk III. Madison Redmond came off the bench and scored nine points. Jamirah Jones had 14 points for Deer Park (0-4).
Lindenhurst 49, Sayville 37: Emma Burmeister scored 30 points, dished out six assists and picked up five steals to lead Lindenhurst (1-3) in non-league. Gabby Vallone added 12 points on four three-pointers. Aniela Marino had 15 points for Sayville (1-4).
Floral Park 54, Manhasset 41: Juliette Payoutte had 19 points, five rebounds and four steals to lead Floral Park (3-1) in non-league. Abby Vitrano chipped in 10 points off the bench, Amanda Owen had eight points and 10 rebounds and Ashley Battista picked up seven points and six assists. Danielle Perfetto led Manhasset (1-2) with 13 points.
