Bryan Gorman, Jared Cohen and Aiden Mindell all hit three-pointers in the second overtime period to help Bellmore JFK boys basketball overcome Roosevelt, 48-40, on Friday night in its non-league home win. Luca Kaplan’s layup tied the score for the Cougars with three seconds left in the first overtime. Gorman led Bellmore JFK (2-1) with 13 points, one of eight Cougars to score. Bryan Thomas led all players with 18 points for Roosevelt (0-2).
Chaminade 63, Stony Brook School 59: Kyle Dillon’s three-pointer tied the score inside the game’s final two minutes before Michael Wede hit another to give Chaminade the lead in non-league. Dillon finished with 23 points and his brother, Lucas, had 20.
Baldwin 82, Smithtown West 72: Mical Saint Jean posted career highs in points (35) and three-pointers (8), adding five rebounds, three steals and two assists for Baldwin in a non-league win Saturday. Ethan Sainsbury had a career-high 24 points, seven assists and two steals. Michael Cascione scored 24 points for Smithtown West.
West Babylon 54, Islip 46: Danny Rose’s 14 points and Noah Rosa’s 13 points helped West Babylon (1-1) overcome a nine-point deficit in the final five minutes in non-league on Friday.
Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK 44, Portledge 42: Andrew Ma sank two free throws with 1.7 seconds left, leading Plainview Old Bethpage (2-0) to a non-league win on Friday. Jordan Rabinovich led all scorers with 19 points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Mepham 47, Farmingdale 43: Mia Troiano scored 15 of her 18 points in the second half for Mepham (1-3) in non-league on Friday. Gabriella Caminiti had 10 points and 11 rebounds. Molly McNamara led Farmingdale (2-1) with 15 points.
Valley Stream South 28, Friends Academy 27: Adelynn Espinal led Valley Stream South (1-2) to a non-league win Saturday, scoring 14 points and logging five steals. Jessica Dyer had seven blocks.
