Matteo Fiore hit a go-ahead solo homer in the ninth inning of No. 1 Garden City’s 2-1 win over No. 9 Mepham in Game 2 of the Nassau Class AA baseball semifinals on Saturday. Joe Carey tossed nine innings, striking out nine, allowing two walks and no earned runs. Azan Durkovic’s fifth-inning RBI scored Garden City’s first run. Jake Maxwell went 7 2⁄3 innings for Mepham, allowing no earned runs. Garden City (21-4) will host Mepham (16-6) for Game 3 of the series at 11 a.m. on Monday.
Bellmore JFK 11, Clarke 8: Max Goodman struck out four over seven innings in No. 3 Bellmore JFK’s victory over No. 2 Clarke in Game 2 of the Nassau Class AA semifinals, helping the Cougars reach their third consecutive county final. Clarke held a 6-0 lead after two innings. Dylan Babek’s three-run homer and Alex Demas’ solo home run in the sixth gave Bellmore JFK the lead. Babek and Demas each went 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Derek Yormack went 2-for-3 with a double. Clarke finished 20-5. Bellmore JFK (19-4) will play the winner of No. 1 Garden City/No. 9 Mepham in the best-of-three championship series at Farmingdale State, beginning at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
Massapequa 2, Oceanside 1: Jack Corrigan struck out three over 3 1⁄3 innings to earn the win and James Alonso pitched the seventh to get the save in No. 1 Massapequa’s win over No. 7 Oceanside in Game 2 of the Nassau Class AAA semifinals. Michael LoFrumento struck out three over 2 2⁄3 innings. John Neary and Brady Love each had a hit and an RBI. Jake Dyer had a hit and an RBI for Oceanside, which finished 6-16-2. Massapequa (20-3-1) will face No. 5 Port Washington in the final at Farmingdale State, with the best-of-three series beginning at noon on Thursday.
Port Washington 5, Syosset 1: Down one in the top of the seventh inning with the bases loaded, Matthew Sheps hit a two-run double to give No. 5 Port Washington the lead in Game 2 of the Nassau Class AAA semifinals against No. 6 Syosset. Maddox Garcia followed with a two-run single and Jake Wilber had an RBI single. Alex Milner pitched a scoreless seventh inning. Wilber also pitched 4 1⁄3 innings, striking out eight. Jake Vulpis earned the win, striking out three over 1 2⁄3 innings for Port Washington (12-11-1). Syosset finished 6-16-1.
Miller Place 5, Mount Sinai 3: Chris Di Gennaro went 2-for-2 with two RBIs in No. 5 Miller Place’s win over No. 6 Mount Sinai in the Suffolk Class A elimination game. Liam Dunkin went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Josh MacDonald went 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. James DiGennaro had two RBIs and a double. Logan De Lorenzo struck out eight in a complete game, allowing three runs and four hits. Mount Sinai finished 13-9. Miller Place (13-8-1) will travel to No. 4 Shoreham-Wading River at 10 a.m. on Monday.
SOFTBALL
Sachem North 7, Sachem East 1: Delaney Mathes went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBIs in No. 1 Sachem North’s victory over No. 5 Sachem East in the third round of the Suffolk Class AAA double elimination playoffs. Danielle Brennan allowed six hits, no walks and struck out three. Makayla Rimmer homered. Marissa Mazzone scored two runs and Brooke Giordano had an RBI and scored a run. Sachem North (20-2) will host No. 2 Commack in the winners’ bracket final at 10 a.m. on Monday. Sachem East (15-5) will visit No. 3 Patchogue-Medford for an elimination game at 10 a.m. on Monday.
Westhampton 20, East Hampton 3: Katie Burke went 5-for-5 with a double, a home run, four runs scored and four RBIs in No. 1 Westhampton’s victory over No. 4 East Hampton in the second round of the Suffolk Class AA double elimination playoffs. Addison Celi went 2-for-3 with a homer, two runs scored and three RBIs. Michaela Hertwig went 4-for-5 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs. Westhampton (16-5) will host No. 2 East Islip in the winners’ bracket final at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. East Hampton (14-7) will host No. 6 Hauppauge in an elimination game at 10 a.m. on Monday.
East Islip 4, Hauppauge 0: Cate Ropiak had a complete-game four-hit shutout, striking out seven in seven innings in No. 2 East Islip’s win over No. 6 Hauppauge in the second round of the Suffolk Class AA double elimination playoffs. Marisa Renganeschi went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Reagan O’Hara finished 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI, while also recording her 100th career hit.
Miller Place 4, Rocky Point 2: Delaney Schleider had two doubles and an RBI in No. 1 Miller Place’s victory over No. 4 Rocky Point in the second round of the Suffolk Class A double elimination playoffs. Breya Kesler had a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Annabella Filomeno and Laney Vomero each had two hits. Tiffany Clasen allowed two runs and struck out seven over seven innings. Raylee Weisman had two hits and Phoebe Graham and Evangeline Nagel each drove in a run for Rocky Point (14-8). Miller Place (17-3) will host Kings Park in the winners’ bracket final at 10 a.m. on Monday. Rocky Point will host No. 6 Bayport-Blue Point in an elimination game at 10 a.m. on Monday.
Bayport-Blue Point 8, Glenn 7: Sarah Swan drove in Abby Fuller with a bunt to give No. 6 Bayport-Blue Point a walk-off win over No. 7 Glenn in a Suffolk Class A elimination game. Fuller went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Delaney Felton went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and struck out six. Kourtney Baillargeon went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Sarah Benedict went 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBIs and a run scored. Kate Baillargeon went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Glenn finished 9-13.
