Christian Jean hit a three-pointer with 50 seconds left to give host Half Hollow Hills West a two-point lead before hitting a pair of free throws with 2.1 seconds left to seal a 67-63 win over Westhampton in Suffolk IV boys basketball action on Friday night.
The win clinched the Suffolk IV title for Hills West.
Vince Corso had eight points and 13 rebounds, adding a steal and an assist to Anderson McMorris following Jean’s three-pointer to extend the lead for Hills West (19-1). Both Jean and McMorris finished with 14 points, and Ethan Saintjean led all scorers with 22 points. Truman Hahn led Westhampton (16-4) with 20 points. Mal Bullock and Levi Emerson added 13 apiece.
Sachem North 53, Ward Melville 52: Jacob Steffins hit eight three-pointers, including the go-ahead shot from deep with nine seconds left, to finish with 26 points and lead Sachem North (10-10) in Suffolk II. Joey Vulin added 11 points. Jack Salgado led Ward Melville (13-7) with 15 points.
West Islip 58, Hauppauge 37: Jovan Brewster scored 17 points to lift West Islip (10-10) in Suffolk IV. It clinched its first playoff berth since 2009. Conor Kenefick and TJ Sonnenberg added 15 and 11 points, respectively. Dom Fernandez led Hauppauge (5-15) with 13 points.
THURSDAY’S GAMES
Jericho 55, New Hyde Park 51: Max Deutsch hit a free throw with 4.8 seconds left to secure the Nassau III title for Jericho (16-3). Casey Deutsch scored 17 points. Charles Avallone led New Hyde Park (10-7) with 15 points.
Bethpage 61, Division 59: Chase Solliday stole the ball with 10 seconds left and passed it to Justin Serio for the go-ahead layup for Bethpage (10-8) in Nassau V. Serio had
16 points, 10 rebounds and two steals, and Solliday had nine points and six assists. Ryan Bruno had 17 points. Mateo Alvarez had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Isaiah Faton led Division (5-13) with 23 points.
Calhoun 65, Long Beach 63: Luca Facciponti assisted Ashton Pierre-Charles’s go-ahead layup with 1.2 seconds left for Calhoun (9-9) in Nassau III. Pierre-Charles finished with 35 points. Amir Ibrahmin had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Vance Kanganis led Long Beach (11-7) with 26 points, hitting six three-pointers.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Commack 45, Huntington 42: Mia McBrien had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead Commack (11-9) in Suffolk II. Gianna Solch added 16 points. Madyn Kalb had 16 points for Huntington (13-7).
Half Hollow Hills West 50, Harborfields 44: Ella Candel scored 16 points and had four steals to lead Half Hollow Hills West (13-7) in Suffolk IV. Amayah Burke added 14 points and six rebounds. Maren Korsh’s 16 points and Maddie Michalopoulos’ 10 led Harborfields (16-4).
Wantagh 54, Floral Park 50: Kayla Mannix racked up 20 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and four steals to lead Wantagh (16-2) in Nassau A-I. Makayla McNeil had 17 points and Isabelle Ferraro added 15 for Wantagh. Sienna McCree led Floral Park (14-5) with 14 points.
THURSDAY’S GAMES
New Hyde Park 48, Jericho 44: Maeve Downing led all scorers with 19 points for New Hyde Park (12-6) in
Nassau AA-I. Kayden Erazo had 14 points and Breanne Noguera added 12. Sadie Krangle led Jericho (15-4) with 17 points and Sonia Ngai contributed 14.
MacArthur 73, Great Neck South 39: Gabby Nicolini scored 18 points to lead MacArthur (17-0) in Nassau AA-I. Meaghan Campbell contributed 16 points, becoming the second 1,000-point scorer in program history and the first player with 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
East Islip 48, Deer Park 34: Emerson Black grabbed 27 rebounds in Suffolk III to lift East Islip (12-8) to a playoff spot and give coach Mike Petre his 300th career win.
