Zoe Castano scored the go-ahead goal in the 78th minute of Deer Park’s 5-4 win over Glenn in a non-league girls soccer opener on Wednesday. Malak Oztimurlenk had a goal and two assists and Mollie Pellicano made 13 saves for Deer Park. Siena Rzonea made nine saves Peyton Lindquist had a goal and an assist for Glenn.
Harborfields 2, Hauppauge 1: Molly Walsh scored to go-ahead goal off an assist from Riley Lockhart with 11 minutes left for Harborfields in a non-league opener. Lockhart also assisted on Jamie Medico's goal in the first half. McKayla Hughes scored a goal and Brooke Pena made six saves for Hauppauge.
Longwood 1, Comsewogue 0: Brooke Pfeiffer scored 15 minutes into the second half off an assist from Briana Zamudio to lift Longwood (1-1) to a non-league win.
Newfield 2, Miller Place 1: Elena Marin and Brooke Whidden scored in the first half for Newfield in a non-league opener. Emily Leo made five saves. Violet Dvorsky scored in the second half and Sadie Bryant made eight saves for Miller Place.
Jericho 2, Locust Valley 1: Isabelle Lui and Alexa Fuller scored a goal apiece to lift Jericho (1-0-1) to a non-league win. Riley Eisenberg scored for Locust Valley (1-1).
BOYS SOCCER
Ward Melville 2, Connetquot 1: Nicky Feldman scored the winning goal in overtime off an assist from Leonardo Cuervo-Torres, lifting Ward Melville in a Suffolk II opener. James Wright made five saves. Myles Weber added a goal, assisted by Luke Erickson. Patrick Alvardo scored to equalize for Connetquot.
Hauppauge 2, Westhampton 1: Daniel McKane scored the go-ahead goal off a pass from Dominick Mroczkowski with 2:41 remaining to lead Hauppauge in a Suffolk IV opener. Thomas Tursellino added a goal, Anthony DiVito had an assist and Nico Mieles made seven saves. Semih Torun scored the tying goal for Westhampton with five minutes left. Nate Cangelosi made seven saves.
Oceanside 3, Hicksville 1: Aidan St. Paul scored Oceanside's second and third goals in a Nassau AAA opener. Jackson Langevin converted a penalty 29 minutes into the first half. Brady Castoro and Langevin each had an assist. Fredy Coreas scored for Hicksville 10 minutes into the second half.
Carle Place 1, Stony Brook School 0: Gavin Lima scored the go-ahead goal in the second half, assisted by Brady Lemancyzk, for Carle Place (2-0) in non-league. Aiden Kalantarov and Logan Fraine combined for the shutout. Massimo Arnone made three saves for Stony Brook School (1-1).
FIELD HOCKEY
Southampton 3, East Hampton 2: Carlie Kreymborg scored two unassisted goals to lift Southampton in a Suffolk II opener. Caitlin Zorko opened the scoring for the Mariners with a goal off the pad in the third quarter. Neveahya Bell had seven saves. Kiana Dias and Ashlyn O'Donnell each scored a goal for East Hampton.
Ward Melville 1, Sachem North 0: Lily Tamburo scored a goal off an assist from Olivia Panasci for Ward Melville in the second quarter of a Suffolk I opener. Alexi Dutka made nine saves for Sachem North.
Connetquot 2, Riverhead 0: Ella Ryden scored off a corner, assisted by Juliana Aiello, to lead Connetquot in a Suffolk I opener. Janet Wanser added a goal off an assist from Ava D'Agostino. Mayeda Latif made two saves in her varsity debut. Casey Hubbard made five saves for Riverhead.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Centereach 3, West Islip 1: Chloe Carr had 23 kills, 19 digs and two aces to lift Centereach (1-1) to a 23-25, 25-13, 25-11, 25-22 non-league win. Kayleigh Balsamo had 34 assists and two aces. Ava Sammarco had seven aces and 16 digs. Jules Gardner added seven kills and seven blocks.
Sachem East 3, Lindenhurst 0: Bridget Hansen had 14 kills, 12 assists, nine aces and five digs to lead Sachem East (2-0) to a 25-22, 25-15, 25-12 win in Suffolk II. Shea Christie had five kills and seven digs, Alyssa Alamia had nine digs and four assists and Danielle White had eight digs and two aces.
Elmont 3, New Hyde Park 0: Marley Gobern-Moss had 11 kills and Taylor Branch added kills to lead Elmont to a 25-20, 25-23, 25-15 win in a non-league opener. Myles Campbell had 27 assists.
