Hauppauge-Smithtown claimed first place with a score of 331 in the non-league girls swimming Long Island Showdown on Friday at Hauppauge.

The squad nearly doubled Jericho’s second-place finishing score of 192.

Six of the best girls swimming teams on Long Island participated in the event designed to showcase talent and fundraise for breast cancer awareness. Hauppauge-Smithtown’s Sarah Lucca contributed to four first-place finishes for her team. Lucca won the 50-yard freestyle (23.72) and 100-yard butterfly (56.12) and participated in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:39.06) and 200-yard medley relay (1:48.24). Olivia Chiofolo also helped Hauppauge-Smithtown’s relay teams to victory and won the 100-yard freestyle in 52.81.

Jericho’s Yuri Shlivko earned two first-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.60) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.82).

Two-time reigning state champion and 2025 Newsday Swimmer of the Year Vivienne Zangaro finished first in the 200- and 500-yard freestyles with state-qualifying times of 1:52.43 and 5:00.15, respectively. The performance helped Long Beach to a fifth-place team finish with a score of 148.

Whitman 2, Newfield 1: Victor Salamanca’s cross led to Connor Umstead’s header in the 51st minute, followed by Luis Jandres’ go-ahead goal off an assist from Umstead a minute later to complete the comeback for Whitman (9-2-2) in Suffolk II. David Gaona scored for Newfield (6-5-1) in the 11th minute.

GIRLS SOCCER

Mineola 2, Clarke 2: Sophia Prudenti scored twice for Mineola (9-2-3), and both Alison DeLuca and Alexa Maia scored for Clarke (6-4-3) in a Nassau A/B-III tie. Maia also had an assist. Celene Mora saved eight shots for the Rams. Cassidy Couture and Erin Gayson played in goal for Mineola, with the latter making two saves.

FIELD HOCKEY

Huntington 1, Ward Melville 0: Alexa Wasoski scored off Maya Schneider’s assist in the fourth quarter to lead Huntington (11-2) in Suffolk I. Kaden DeHoyos made four saves for Ward Melville (11-2).

Centereach 1, Commack 0: Blake Gullo scored in the second quarter for Centereach (6-9) in Suffolk I. Isabella Koch had the assist. Ellie Dreyfus made 12 saves for Commack (6-7).
