High school roundup: Boys and girls basketball games

Aden-Amir Jones had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead host No. 8 Sachem East over No. 9 Sachem North, 61-41, in the first round of the Suffolk Class AAA boys basketball playoffs on Thursday. It was the first playoff win in school history, according to coach Dan Celentano. Jadice Sadler had 14 points and six assists. Josh Boothe scored 11 points and Derek Hansen added 10.
Sachem East (14-7) will visit No. 1 Floyd at noon next Thursday in the quarterfinals. Luke LaRocca scored 14 points for Sachem North (10-11).
WEDNESDAY’S GAMES
St. Anthony’s 55, Kellenberg 53: Kahmel Wilmot hit a three-pointer with 49 seconds remaining to give St. Anthony’s (13-8) the lead in the CHSAA. Wilmot finished with 17 points. Ouse Ninche scored a team-high 19 points and stole an inbounds pass with four seconds left to seal the game. Mike Tagios scored 23 points and Luke O’Connor had 14 for Kellenberg (6-10).
Garden City 90, Glen Cove 60: Konstantinos Walsh scored 27 points to lead Garden City (16-3) in Nassau IV. Mark Reeves scored 27 for Glen Cove (2-18), including his 1,000th point midway through the third quarter. Reeves finished his varsity career with 1,013. He became the Big Red’s first 1,000-point scorer since Todd Johnson reached the milestone in the 1999-2000 season.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
WEDNESDAY’S GAMES
Freeport 72, Herricks 52: Madison Harris had 32 points to lead Freeport (16-3) in Nassau AAA-I. Shaniya Bonny scored 16 points. Ridima Sethi led Herricks (6-14) with 27 points.
Mepham 58, Hewlett 56: Olivia Lettieri had 18 points and 14 rebounds to lead Mepham (13-6) in overtime in Nassau AA-II. Mia Troiano had 11 points and 11 rebounds. Bree McGovern had two three-pointers in the fourth quarter to help send the game to overtime. Angelina Batista had 23 points to lead Hewlett (4-13).
